Redoutey Logging

August Redoutey started logging private and state timberland in 1982. A two man operation consisting of "Augie" and one other employee started doing some contracting work for Mead Corp in the mid 1990's. Son Ryan joined the operation after high school in 1996, followed by older brother Reg in 1997. When Ryan left for Hocking College in Ohio a cousin Aaron joined the crews. When Ryan returned from college in 2000, he brought with him the technology of forwarders and with a little convincing he talked Augie and the others into trying one out. So in the fall of 2000 Redoutey logging took delivery of their first ROTTNE SMV forwarder. As the Redoutey's started doing more low impact logging they realized the timber size changing and the bottleneck still being the smaller diameter material they purchased a ROTTNE 5000 in 2002. Today Redoutey Logging consisted of two crews the first is Reg and Aaron with a ROTTNE SMV Forwarder and a ROTTNE 5005 harvester. The other crew is Ryan and Augie operating a ROTTNE SMV forwarder the Redoutey's newest purchase a ROTTNE H14 harvester.
Redoutey's feel the CTL equipment provides them with increased efficiency, productivity, and a lower ground impact than conventional logging systems. The ROTTNE equipment creates an optimal environment for operators. The climate controlled cabs provide comfort, and most importantly the safest working environment possible in the woods. The Redoutey's still maintain a few pieces of conventional equipment for the occasional conventional logging job.
Two years ago, Redoutey's, together with Glatfelter, tested a new scale link in which the wood is scaled with a link at the end of the forwarder boom above the grapple. At the end of the week the weights are tallied on the scales computer and an invoice is send to the mill. The invoice is sent via email over the weekend and payment is received by Tuesday. A second scale system was just recently added. The newest scale allows the use of GPRS technology to send the scale data to a satellite link that will then send the information to a designated email accounts via a web server.
Redoutey Logging was recently recognized as Ohio Forestry Logger of the Year for 2008.
